12th January – birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

Everything that is excellent will come when this sleeping soul is aroused to self conscious activity

12th January is a birthday of Swami Vivekanda, a person with inspiration, a person who have created path to lead a successful life, a great teacher to youth.

Teachings of Swami Vivekananda shows path to lead a successful and meaningful life.

Beginning of 1984, India has declared Swami Vivekananda’s birthday as National Youth Day [External link]~

What Gandhiji said captures the great importance of spreading Swami Vivekananda’s ideas and ideals among the youth in our country today. He personified the eternal energy of the youth and their restless quest for truth. It is entirely fitting that the Government of India has declared 12th January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, as National Youth Day. We must work to rekindle the eternal message of this great patriot and son of India.
– The Prime Minister of India on 12th January, 2013

There was a great response when Swami began his speech at Chicago as “Brothers and Sisters of America”. Below is video of his speech at Chicago.

I personally have learnt several things by reading his literature, watching videos. Some of them are “try again and again until you succeed” and “Be good and do good”.

Though Swmi is not in our midst, I’m sure his teachings will continue to inspire, guide and encourage all of us and let’s make sure we spread the word of his teachings.

I believe everyone should spend at least sometime (specially during school ae) reading Swami Vivekanda’s teachings, quotes and in fact, it should be made as part of school curriculum.

I would also like to thank our brother K Gunyaneshwara Rao, who have introduced me to teachings of Swami.

With sincere tributes to Swami Vivekanda
