Hanuman Jayanti Wishes

Lord Hanuman is regarded as the one who secure us from danger. As per Hindu Calendar, today is Hanuman Jayanti (birthday). I still remember my father used to chant Hanuman Chalisa while we get to sleep. It’s also a belief that while listening or chanting Hanuman Chalisa before sleep keep us away from danger dreams. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated annually in the Hindu month of Chaitra (Chaitra Pournima) 15th day of Shukla Paksha. How to Celebrate Hanuman Jayanti Lord Hanuman, a dedicated disciple of the Hindu Lord Rama, is worshipped all over the India by the Hindu people for his…

Public Grievance (PG) Portal is indeed helpful

Earlier this month, we have made an outstanding payment of our Fixed line and Broadband Service provided by Airtel but it was shocking to see in the next bill cycle where Airtel claimed that we payment of earlier month is due. We have called up customer care, walked in to their store and showed proof of payment but nothing has happened. Even after repetitive calls to customer service did not help. Then we have lodged a complaint on Public Grievance (PG) Portal and within 6 hours, got a call back from Bharati Airtel and issue got resolved. Though I wish…

Thank you note on the occasion of Global Accessibility Awareness Day

On the eve of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, I would like to thank a few individuals and organizations who have helped and supported me to grow myself in the area of accessibility. Thank you The National Association for the Blind, Karnataka Branch, a place where I started thinking about web accessibility. It all began when we have built website for NAB Karnataka for the first time with so much of JavaScript, layout tables, images with no alt etc., Thanks BarrierBreak (then Net Systems Informatics (India) Pvt. Ltd.,) and Shilpi Kapoor, who showed me path to accessibility. This is where I…

Aadhaar Enrollment Experience – mostly positive but room for improvement

Finally, we got to enroll ourselves to get included with Unique Identification Authority of India at Indiranagar centre, Bangalore. Our experience is quite postive but needs improvement. Staff at the centre are very helpful, accommodate people with disabilities to best possible extent. Even they have filled out part of the form when we missed, courteous enough to ask Hema if she is able to use her fingers. Centre has enough place to sit and staff were really managing their time well. They were also helping citizens with desired information. Only problem though that they may not correctly know the web…

India is driving towards inclusion… STOP discrimination

On public mailing lists and social media, I have recently came across a few incidents of discrimination of people with disabilities that prompted me to write this post. First one is about Punjab National Bank, who is troubling a potential customer who happens to be blind to open a Bank account. In spite showing Circular issued by The Reserve Bank of India [PDF], bank has declined to open an account and provide facilities like Cheque Book, debit card etc., Bank says that they would require customer to sign on a declaration stating something only customer is responsible for safety of…
